21 Apr Discover Aquebogue
It’s spring time–the perfect season for wine tasting on Long Island’s East End. Whether you plan to spend a day or a weekend on the North Fork, plan a stop in Aquebogue. This small, charming town has plenty to do from drinking award-winning wine to satisfying your chocolate craving to having a picnic at an orchard.
The vineyard was founded in the spring of 1983, by Ursula and Charles Massoud. Using the traditions they learned from their past, they launched a vineyard where only premium vinifera grapevines are planted. They grew Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes on a 127-acre estate. Paumanok’s wines only use these estate-grown grapes, limiting production to fewer than 12,000 cases. Taste their wines before they run out for the season!
In 1983, Robert Palmer, better known to his friends as Bob, had a vision. He purchased a parcel of farmland on the North Fork of Long Island and cultivated a vineyard. Today, Palmer Vineyards has the distinction of being one of the North Fork’s original wineries. Throughout the years, the vineyard and its wines have received numerous accolades. This praise reflects Bob Palmer’s pledge of quality and excellence. “I have to set the standards high,” says Bob, “my name is on every bottle.” Taste his wines and find out why Palmer Vineyards deserve all the praise.
