Old Field Vineyard
In 1996 Christian and his wife Rosamond Phelps, purchased the Old Field from his family. They planted Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir wine grapes. From these grapes, today Rose and Chris, along with their grown children, Perry and Ryan–the fifth generation to work the land–are crafting premium red, white, and sparkling wines. The Old Field has the only mother daughter winery/vineyard team on Long Island.

Custer Institute & Observatory
You don’t have to look far to find the stars. Especially at the Custer Observatory. Established in 1927, The Custer Institute & Observatory is the oldest public observatory on Long Island. The institute was founded by Charles Wesley Elmer (co-founder of the Perkin-Elmer Optical Company), along with a group of fellow amateur-astronomers. The name was adopted to honor the hospitality of Mrs. Elmer, the Grand Niece of General George Armstrong Custer. In 1942, the Custer Institute was incorporated as a non-profit educational corporation in the State of New York. The observatory offers a variety of events and the below times for viewings.
